Debi Hedderwick

Debi Hedderwick is a choreographer and performer who works with people of all ages and range of experience to explore and make new dance theatre. Her work in dance performance, choreography, teaching and facilitation - and more recently in cross art-form and multi-media work - is created with the performers through improvisation and a collaborative process, and is focused on the group’s imaginative approach to the theme. Believing that dance is a transforming participatory experience, and should be open to everyone to enjoy, she encourages inclusion, inspires creativity, and facilitates participants’ personal development, learning goals and aspirations.

Debi works in Early Years, Primary and Secondary, and Special education, and with young people and adults outside of formal education - particularly in establishing and running Wirksworth IN.depend.DANCE Youth Company. She also provides training opportunities for teachers and other creative practitioners. Debi has also been working as a practitioner and Development Worker with Creative Partnerships since its inception in 2002. She also voluntarily developed and managed the performance programme of the regionally prestigious Wirksworth Festival from 1998 – 2002.

Debi is the Creative Director of Learning Through Arts – an independent organisation initiating, developing and managing inclusive and inspiring creative learning projects across all sectors of the community - reflecting her belief that the arts are a powerful tool in creative education, group development, social inclusion, partnership building and community regeneration.

Apart from mothering and working Debi loves to dance, play, read, play music, walk in the countryside and has lead a successful park regeneration project with young people in Wirksworth resulting in a major Skatepark!
